As a general rule, it is wise to conduct safety training for all levels of employees, regardless of whether there is a requirement to do so. This helps prevent easily avoidable workplace accidents and liabilities. Safety training can even be given to office workers in areas such as first aid, CPR or ergonomics.
For more technical jobs, such as forklift driving, safety training is a requirement before an employee may even begin working. Employers must be careful to follow detailed regulations closely and give all employees adequate employees.
It is also a good idea for employers to give supervisors specific safety training that teaches principles such as CPR and first aid, but which also teaches why workplace safety is important. Supervisor training should also cover OSHA mandates such as MSDSs, HAZWOPER and other OSHA regulations of which a supervisor should be aware.
