Several states have "day of rest" laws, which require an employer to provide employees with a day of rest on Sundays, on their Sabbath, or when they have worked a certain number of hours or days in a row.
The following chart summarizes each state's requirements for days of rest, as well as employee coverage and exemptions. The chart also provides links to any applicable employee handbook statements that relate to day of rest requirements.
Some states also require overtime pay for work on Sundays or holidays. Additional information can be found in the chart Overtime Variations by State.
