Summary
- Employers are under no general statutory obligation to provide or finance vocational training for their employees. (See General)
- Under certain circumstances, an employer is entitled to require an employee to repay the costs of training provided at its expense, if the employee does not remain in employment for a certain period after the training ends. (See Repayment of training costs)
- Apprentices, who must be employed on special contracts, are generally covered by employment legislation in the same way as other employees, although with special rules in areas such as probationary periods and termination of contract. (See Apprenticeships)
