Summary
- There is no general statutory requirement for employers to provide employees with vocational training, or with financial assistance or time off for such training. (See General)
- There is a system of apprenticeships, whereby apprentices undergo on-the-job training within employment, along with related theoretical instruction, in an approved "apprenticeable occupation", for four to six months. In certain non-apprenticeable occupations, individuals may be recruited as "learners" for up to three months of practical on-the-job training. (See Apprenticeships and learnerships)
- Employers may participate in the JobStart Philippines and "dual training system" programmes, whereby they provide internships and traineeships under certain conditions and give the individuals concerned preference for future employment when they complete the scheme. (See Other training arrangements)
