Alabama Repeals Child Labor Work Permits
Implementation Date: June 1, 2024
Effective June 1, 2024, Alabama's child labor law is amended to:
- Repeal its Eligibility-to-Work Form requirement, under which 14- and 15-year-olds could not be employed without permission of a school official who would certify the minor's satisfactory grades and attendance; and
- Require the parents or guardians of 14- or 15-year-olds who are employed to notify the minor's head administrator, counselor or, if home schooled, an instructor of the school which the minor attends of the name, address and telephone number of the employer.
Employers still must obtain a Child Labor Certificate that limits the hours during which minors may work and the occupations in which they may work for each location where they wish to employ a minor in any occupation other than agricultural service.
