Summary
- Withholding for a child support order must begin no later than the first pay period that occurs within seven business days after the date the income withholding order is mailed to the employer. Payment must be made within five working days after the employee's payday. Federal withholding limits apply. Additional rules apply to interstate income withholding orders. - Employers are required to file a response to a credit garnishment order within 20 days. Hawaii limits the amount of disposable income that is subject to creditor garnishment. See Creditor Garnishment Withholding.
- Hawaii does not permit voluntary wage assignments. See Voluntary Wage Assignments.
- The Hawaii Director of Taxation has the right to issue wage garnishments to collect unpaid taxes. See Tax Levies.
