Summary

  • Employers must begin withholding pursuant to a child support order two weeks after the date the notice was mailed to, or electronically served on, the employer. The employer must transmit the amount withheld according to the notice no later than seven business days after payday. Withholding for child support is limited by the federal Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA). See Child Support Withholding.
  • Creditor garnishment withholding in Missouri is generally limited by the CCPA. Employers are permitted to withhold an additional administrative fee. See Creditor Garnishment Withholding.
  • The garnishment withholding limits do not apply to state tax levies. See Tax Levies.
  • Missouri law permits employees to make voluntary assignments of wages already earned only if certain requirements are met. See Voluntary Wage Assignments.
