Summary
- Nonexempt employees must be paid one and one-half times their regular rate of pay for all hours beyond 40 in a workweek. See Overview.
- Some public employees may be provided compensatory time off instead of overtime pay. See Compensatory Time.
- With some exceptions, employers generally may not require employees to work more than 80 hours of overtime in any consecutive two-week period. See Limits on Mandatory Overtime.
