How to Suspend an Employee
Author: Brightmine Editorial Team
Suspension, whether paid or unpaid, is commonly used in workplaces as part of an organization's discipline policy. In addition, suspension may be used as a preventative measure or aid when conducting an internal investigation. For example, if an employee is suspected of sexual harassment, a paid suspension pending the conclusion of the investigation could aid in gathering relevant information and decrease the likelihood of retaliation against those who participated in the investigation, especially the complaining employee.
An employer may seek to suspend an employee who has engaged in the following behaviors:
- Violating safety protocols;
- Engaging in workplace theft; and
- Harassing a co-worker.
