Progressive Discipline Policy

When to Use
Employers should consider having a written policy on discipline practices to set a standard process for addressing employee misconduct and educate employees on the process. The policy may include a list of workplace violations and misconduct that will typically be met with discipline.
Employers should ensure that their disciplinary options remain flexible by communicating to employees that the employer will generally attempt to provide progressive discipline but may choose not to do so in its sole discretion depending on the particular facts and circumstances of a situation.
Importantly, the policy should specify that it does not modify the at-will nature of employment.
