Summary

  • Oklahoma courts do not use a specific definition of "cause" when employers terminate employees, but certain promises can elevate at-will employment relationships to employment contracts requiring just cause for termination. See Termination for Cause.
  • Oklahoma recognizes protections for whistleblowers and other employees to shelter them from retaliatory terminations. See Whistleblowers.
  • Employers may not terminate an employee in Oklahoma because they are a smoker, or because they are the subject of a tax debt garnishment. See Other Protections.
  • Terminated employees must be paid final wages by the next regular payday. See Termination Pay.
