When to Use
Equal pay laws generally prohibit an employer from paying different wages based on sex (or other protected classes) for the same or similar work. Various state and local laws build on federal protections and aim to eliminate wage discrimination and achieve greater pay equity. These laws mandate equal pay and also encourage wage transparency by permitting individuals to freely discuss their wages. This checklist should be used by an employer to comply with the various state and local equal pay laws. Employers do not have to complete the following steps in sequential order to properly complete the checklist.
