How to Create a Trans-Inclusive Workplace

While many employers have made progress in making their workplaces more inclusive based on race and gender, progress has been harder to measure for some other underrepresented groups. One group for which this has been particularly true is for transgender employees.
Research from McKinsey & Company shows that more than half of transgender employees say they remain uncomfortable being out at work. In addition, people who identify as transgender report feeling far less supported than their cisgender co-workers.
By adopting the following steps, an employer can create a more inclusive culture to ensure that transgender employees do not feel unwelcome or seek to leave the organization.
