When to Use
Employers (e.g., individuals, partnerships, corporations) with 50 or more employees for 20 or more workweeks in the current or preceding calendar year and that are engaged in commerce or any industry or activity affecting commerce are covered by the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Covered employers are required by law to include an FMLA policy in a handbook or written benefits policy, if they have one. For more details on employer coverage, see FMLA: Federal.
