  • Employers should be sure employee referrals do not result in violations of the Rhode Island Fair Employment Practices Act (FEPA). See Employee Referrals.
  • Eemployers should be cautious about the language and pictures depicted in job advertisements in order to avoid violations of FEPA. See Advertising Dos and Don'ts.
  • The state has a "smokers' rights" statute that employers must not run afoul of during the recruitment process. See Smokers' Rights.
  • Rhode Island employers may grant a hiring preference to veterans who have received an honorable or general discharge. See Veterans Preference.
