Summary

  • All Vermont employers covered by the Vermont Workers' Compensation Act are required to post specific notices in the workplace. See Notice Requirements.
  • Workers' Compensation is the exclusive remedy for personal injury, illness or death of an employee from a work accident or occupational disease in Vermont. All employers, with few exceptions, are required to carry workers' compensation insurance. See Covered Employers.
  • Nearly all employees are covered by workers' compensation, with a few notable exceptions. See Covered Employees.
  • Injuries and occupational illnesses arising out of and in the course of employment are compensable. See Compensable Injuries.
  • Employers may not be liable for certain injuries incurred under specific circumstances. See Employer Defenses to Workers' Compensation Claims.
  • Workers' compensation pays for all medical and surgical costs due to work-related injury or illness. See Medical Benefits.
