Open-Door Policy
Author: Jessica Sussman
When to Use
Employers should consider including an open-door policy to encourage open communication and feedback. An open-door policy communicates to employees that management is available to hear employees' concerns or suggestions and resolve any issues before they escalate into bigger problems. Encouraging employees to share their ideas enhances employee confidence and assures employees that they have a voice in the organization, which may lead to added value. Employee feedback promotes positive change, regardless of its content.
