Summary

  • In certain circumstances under Texas's "Mini-COBRA" law, group health policies issued to employers are required to provide continuation of benefits for up to nine months. See Texas State Continuation Coverage Law.
  • Dependent coverage may be required for up to three years in certain circumstances. See Texas State Continuation Coverage Law.
  • Texas extends federal COBRA obligations for employers with 20 or more employees by six months. See Extension of COBRA Coverage.
  • Health Maintenance Organizations and insured group health plans are not required to offer individuals the opportunity to convert from a group policy to an individual policy. See Conversion.
  • Written notice of continuation or conversion privileges must be provided to each employee or dependent insured under the group and affected by the termination of coverage. See Notice Requirements.
