Emergency Responder Leave Handbook Statement: Massachusetts
Employees who serve as volunteer firefighters or emergency medical technicians may take time off from work to respond to an emergency that occurred prior to the time the employee is scheduled to report to work. For purposes of this policy, "respond to an emergency" means responding to, working at the scene of or returning from a fire, a rescue, an emergency medical service call, a hazardous materials incident or a natural or man-made disaster in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to prevent the imminent loss of life or property.
